Moodle: Crosslist for Lab Sections
The Crosslist & Split tool (see GROK 20662 for more information) allows an instructor to create a new Moodle course with their laboratory course sections as Moodle groups while keeping the ability to post grades to the lecture course. The new course name will not carryover the "(Web-based)" notation.
NOTE: It is recommended that you crosslist your lecture and lab sections before importing materials or making any changes in the course. When the new course gets created, it is an empty course, and your original courses will be removed from Moodle. Once your new course is created, you can then import or add any content.
This process has multiple steps, so if you need assistance, contact the Faculty Technology Center (225-578-3375, option 2 or ftc@lsu.edu).
Not What You Are Looking For?
If you would like to incorporate undergraduate and graduate courses, see Moodle: Crosslist for Undergrad and Graduate Courses (GROK #20691).
If you are looking to combine across campuses (A&M and Online), see Moodle Cross-enrollment (GROK #20544).
If you are looking to combine courses with another instructor, see Moodle: Team Teach Request (GROK #20174).
Initiating a Crosslist & Split:
- Log on to Moodle.
- Click on Crosslist & Split in the Workday Preferences block in the blocks drawer in the right side bar menu of the front page of Moodle.
-
If you do not see the Workday Preferences block, you can add it via the following article: Moodle: Course Tools: Adding a Block

-
Select a term/period to use and then Continue. This will only show current and near-future terms.

- Click the boxes to the right of the lecture course. Notice that the number of sections should equal the number of lab sections plus the one lecture section. Verify that the number of new Moodle course shells is set to 1.

- Then click Continue.
- In Step 2, the lecture and lab sections of the previously selected course will be listed. Select all of the original sections (LAB and LEC) from the left and click Add to Shell to move those section to the new Moodle course shell.

- Click Submit to create the new Moodle course.
Note: The course shell will be created immediately.
