ProctorU: Information for Students

PLEASE NOTE:  All exams will be proctored through the Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge ProctorU site. If you previously had an account with ProctorU as an LSU Online or ODL student, follow the instructions in this document to update your institution affiliation to Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge.

What to Expect

The Test-Taker Knowledge Base contains articles that answer important questions, such as how to schedule exams, what you need to take an exam, how to resolve technical issues, and more. The articles walk you through an exam session from beginning to end, including information about where and how you can test. Read each section fully before taking an exam. If you need more assistance, visit Contact Support Team to send a message or use the ProctorU Chat Support resource.

A Note on Scheduling

Please note that ProctorU appointments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. This means that you should schedule your exam appointment as soon as possible. If you wait until your exam time, it is possible that the times you select will not be available or you may be charged premium scheduling fees. Please note that premium scheduling fees may apply for the Live+ and Review+ service lines if you schedule within 72 hours of the exam window. These fees are as follows:

  • Take It Soon: allows test-takers to schedule a test 24–72 hours prior to the selected test time and incurs an additional fee of $8.00 USD
  • Take It Now: allows test-takers to schedule a test fewer than 24 hours prior to the selected test time and incurs an additional fee of $12.00 USD

To ensure that you access the most updated schedule, ProctorU recommends that you call their support line directly at 855-772-8678.

The Guardian Exam Browser

The Guardian browser is now required for all ProctorU test-takers. Guardian is a lockable browser for ProctorU sessions that streamlines exam launch and provides a more secure and user-friendly student experience. Test takers will download the browser as part of their exam preparation, and the software can be removed when not in use. During the exam session, Guardian monitors the student’s computer for potential breaches during the exam, such as the use of hotkeys, copy/paste, and hardware detection. Guardian can be used in conjunction with a live proctor or for an automated session with live review. For more information on using this software, visit ProctorU’s Guardian Secure Proctoring Browser Resources.

Before Logging in to Take Your Exam:

  1. Have a government-issued ID (or other forms of ID allowed by your institution or testing organization) ready and be located in a private, well-lit room with no one else around you.
  2. Clear your workspace of all materials except those allowed by your instructor or testing organization.
  3. Close all third-party programs and unplug any secondary monitors.
  4. Remove any non-religious head coverings.
  5. Make sure to download the Guardian Browser

What Happens During the Exam Launch Process?

This process is different depending on whether a live human proctor launches your exam or not. If you’re not sure whether you’ll have a live proctored launch, don’t worry - the system will walk you through everything you need to do in an easy step-by-step process. Please review both options on ProctorU’s Exam Day (What to expect) (Guardian).
